This program is focused on building relationships with law enforcement and the community through the mentoring at-risk youth in the communities they serve. BIB is an on-going program in Montgomery County, MD that serves at-risk youth in 5th grade at Gaitherburg Elementary School who are matches with law enforcement personnel from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). The MCPD specifically chose to work with Gaithersburg Elementary School as their mentoring site because 87 percent of the families whose children attend school there are disadvantages and facing challenges with local gangs and domestic violence. In the next year, the program will expand to Washington, DC where 25 law enforcement personnel from the Metropolitan Police Department have signed up to be mentors with a partnering DC School.
