Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area Receives $20,000 Grant from Delaplaine Foundation
FREDERICK, MD, Dec 13, 2024—Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area (BBBSNCA) received a $20,000 grant from Delaplaine Foundation to expand its Community-Based One-to-One Mentoring Program. This funding will allow BBBSNCA to serve at-risk youth in Frederick County, Maryland, helping them grow and reach their full potential.
The Frederick County Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter closed in 2014. In 2020, the Frederick community warmly welcomed Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area (BBBSNCA). Since then, BBBSNCA has fostered many partnerships with local organizations and school districts. These initiatives have ensured that vital mentoring services remain accessible to all at-risk youth in the area.
“We are incredibly grateful to Delaplaine Foundation for this vital grant,” said Michael Sanzi, President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area (BBBSNCA). “This funding will enable us to reach even more young people within Frederick County who are in need of a caring and dedicated mentor. We’re thrilled to represent the area and look forward to further engaging the community, all made possible by the Delaplaine grant.”
BBBSNCA’s Community-Based-One-to-One Mentoring Program provides crucial support to young children facing academic challenges, socioeconomic disparities, and the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Through evidence-based mentoring, the program creates long-term, positive relationships between Bigs and Littles that empower youth to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
“At Delaplaine Foundation, we believe in the power of collaboration to create meaningful change,” said Marlene B. Young, President of Delaplaine Foundation, Inc. “By partnering with nonprofit organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area, we can directly assist our local youth in overcoming challenges and achieving success in life. Through these efforts, we hope to leave a lasting impact on generations to come in Frederick County and beyond.”
