Ten Little Brothers and Little Sisters were given an unexpected opportunity to treat their mothers to a new dress or skirt or pair of shoes this Mother’s Day through the generosity of Dressbarn, women’s apparel store.

Dressbarn’s “To Mom, with Love” program brought Littles and Bigs into the store located at 1009 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, where they were given $50 gift cards to shop for their mothers on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Program staff members, Denise Williams and Jehan Cooke, accompanied the group.

The children are Littles in Big Brothers Big Sisters’ “Building Positive Futures” Program and our Hermanos y Hermanas Mayores Latino Outreach Initiative.

“We were excited to work with Dressbarn on this inaugural ‘To Mom, With Love’ program to benefit area families,” said Paul F. Bliss, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area. “Most of our kids don’t have the resources to buy their mother a gift for the holiday, so this was such a great day for them, their moms and our volunteers.”

Dressbarn worked with 120 stores nationwide to make it possible for families that otherwise may not be able to afford gifts, to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and unique contributions that every mother makes to her family.
